Photography and Me

Creativity is a spark we all are born with, but we tend to lose it as we grow older. I also lost it as I started running in the usual rat-race we all strive to be part of. Fortunately, I found my way back through art, home, and family. The words Art and Design have many conflicts between them but they have one thing in common. Creativity is the bridge that connects them. Photography has helped me regain my Creative Confidence.

After doing design, I was once asked- ‘what will you do with your photography now?’. It was a valid question but it sounded irrelevant to me. Photography for me was never just a hobby. It still gives me bliss and the power to experiment. It connects me to my soul. It relaxes me and it brings out the best in me in so many ways.

A photograph is more than just the act of using a camera to capture moments. A good photograph is more like a conversation taking place between the person behind the camera (the photographer) and the subject.
At times, when you see a great photograph, you want to know how the dialogue might have played out between the photographer and the subject. The real challenge lies in re-creating that conversation and building a similar relationship between the photograph and the viewer.

A ‘photograph’ is also more than just a camera. It’s not just the DSLR or a fancy phone that does the trick! Understanding the capacity of the equipment you have in hand is just a start. It’s about what you want to capture and how you want to depict the story.

And Like they all say, all photographs and all works of art, tell a story. At times it is a story that the artist wants to depict. Sometimes it’s his state of mind and sometimes it is just left to the viewer’s interpretation.

But there are some moments which are not meant to be clicked. Some moments should just be left to feel and experience then and there. These moments leave a permanent imprint on our soul and we can choose to leave it there. The best of a photographer will only be seen by herself because it’s within the very being of her existence.
